Hevy Coach vs. Everfit: An Overview

Everfit claims to have the most powerful coaching tools, including a sophisticated program builder, habit coaching, nutrition, messaging, and progress-tracking capabilities.

But is that the case? Does Everfit have all the tools you need to provide the best coaching experience? More importantly, is it better than Hevy Coach for personal trainers and strength coaches

Everfit looks like the complete package because it has a sleek interface and many coaching features. However, despite that, the platform doesn’t handle all features in the best way possible.

The program builder and library, client list and profiles, and the coach and client apps need improvement and more flexibility. Let’s also not forget that Everfit doesn’t even have a dashboard.

In comparison, Hevy Coach offers many of the same functions and handles certain features better while being free of fluff, making it easier to navigate and use daily.

Hevy Coach is better than Everfit because it has an informative dashboard. You can organize training plans better, the workout builder has all the features you need for resistance training programming, client lists and profiles provide more relevant info, the client app is far more refined, and the team feature allows you to manage all coaches and clients.

User Interface and Navigation

While Everfit caters to various types of fitness professionals, it’s also important to remember that features add complexity that affects the user experience, especially for trainers who value minimalism.

Everfit’s main menu has a good layout that immediately tells you where most features are: the libraries, workout builder, client list, personal messages section, and more. However, there are numerous sub-menus that are difficult to memorize and can sometimes confuse you.

Another drawback of Everfit is that it doesn’t have a dedicated dashboard section to give you an overview of your clients and their recent activities. The platform’s default home screen is your client list.

This is a considerable drawback because you don’t have a simple way to quickly look at your clients and see what they are up to. Instead, you must visit each person’s profile individually for more information.

In contrast, Hevy Coach has a more streamlined interface and an informative dashboard. The dashboard provides an overview of your clients, their recently logged activities on a feed, and a graph of the weekly active client count. This is a fantastic way to monitor at a glance and dive into the specifics when necessary.

overview of the hevy coach dashboard

The platform’s main menu lists all the important areas, such as your client list, program library, exercise library, and personal messages section. You can see what program each client is running (and their progress on it), visit their profiles, organize, edit, and create training plans, chat with clients, build a coaching team, and create a unique lead generation form.

Plus, since Hevy Coach caters to strength coaches and personal trainers, the whole experience feels more intuitive. You get all the features you need with none of the fluff.

“It’s a simple and easy dashboard that has a very clean app with UI. It has all the tools required to track progressive overload and ensure clients enjoy their workouts. Compared to other apps, they’re either too confusing or have too many bells and whistles that confuse clients. Hevy does a very good job at keeping things simple but extremely effective and easy to use. My clients love it.”

Program Library

Everfit’s program library lists all training plans, including their names, descriptions, and duration. You can create unlimited programs and edit any of them when necessary. There’s no way to organize them in folders, but you can use tags and find programs with advanced filters for experience, goals, number of weekly workouts, and program duration.

The platform’s program builder has multiple valuable features, including adding or removing weeks, duplicating weeks, scheduling existing workouts from your library, and creating new ones from scratch.

With Live Sync enabled, any changes you make to an existing program will be automatically applied to a client already running the program.

One drawback of the program builder is that you can only display up to four weeks at a time, which can be frustrating when creating a longer plan––say, a 6, 8, or 10-week one. You can’t see the whole plan at once and must instead edit the workouts and schedule four weeks at a time.

Hevy Coach uses a different approach. First, the program library allows you to store unlimited programs, which you can organize in folders based on goals (e.g., build muscle), experience (e.g., beginner), available equipment (e.g., dumbbells), or something else.

Second, all the workouts in each plan appear in the list view without opening the program builder

Third, you can add new programs to any folder and duplicate entire folders for streamlined plan building.

the program library in hevy coach with options and the folders feature

Also, unlike Everfit, you can use Hevy Coach’s drag-and-drop functions to move programs up and down, including to different folders. This allows you to organize dozens of plans.

Hevy Coach also has a program library with more than a dozen training programs for trainees of all levels. You can filter the programs by goals, experience, and available equipment. Each plan includes a description, multiple workouts, exercises, set and rep recommendations, rest timers, and custom notes on some movements.

When you open a program, you can write a note, set a duration, rearrange workouts with drag and drop, duplicate or delete individual workouts, see a program summary, and even duplicate workouts to other training plans.

Workout Builder

Everfit’s workout builder is functional and flexible, with many useful features for trainers and coaches.

Start by naming the workout, writing a brief description, and adding movements from the exercise library. Once you’ve added activities to the workout, you can add sets, prescribe load and reps for each, adjust the rest timer, add a custom note, and even set tempo recommendations.

You can also link pairs of exercises into supersets and use the small window on the right to drag and drop movements to change their order.

You can also mark sets by type (regular, warm-up, drop set, or failure) and add alternative exercises for your clients. For example, if you’ve prescribed a barbell shoulder press, you can set the dumbbell press as an alternative.

There’s also an option to add sections to a workout. These cater to multiple training styles (such as regular or AMRAP) and typically consist of multiple exercises. You can create a section from scratch while building a workout or import one from your library.

Finally, another neat touch worth mentioning is that you can edit the training variables for each movement and select the ones you want––for example, weight, reps, and RPE. By default, you get two variables, so you must go to the menu and select Customize Fields to add a third one or change the assigned ones.

Now, while Everfit’s workout builder is not one to overlook, Hevy Coach also does a fantastic job. As on Everfit, you can:

  • Find and add movements to a workout through the exercise library
  • Write a custom note for any exercise with additional tips or information for your client
  • Adjust the rest timer between sets for each movement
  • Set load and rep or rep range targets for each set
  • Drag and drop movements to rearrange them

Unlike Everfit, the RPE field is readily available once you’ve enabled it via a toggle button at the top of the workout.

hevy coach workout builder features displayed

You can easily add or remove sets and mark them by type: normal, warm-up, failure, or drop set

overview of hevy coach workout builder options to add/remove sets and mark by type

Also, you can click the three dots icon on the top right of any movement to swap it for another, edit it (change the how-to instructions and attach a video), or add it to a superset.

Another practical option in Hevy Coach’s workout builder is that you can add a warm-up activity and write a custom note that briefly describes the preparation you want your client to do––for example, do 3 minutes of dynamic movements like leg and arm swings, arm circles, wrist twists, elbow rotations, and high knees.

You can upload a video or attach a YouTube link with a specific warm-up sequence your clients can follow.

The best coaching app I’ve used (and I’ve used a few!). The ability to write up client workouts so that all they have to do is hit “start routine” is such a time saver on their side! It’s just super easy to use and intuitive.”

Exercise Library

Everfit’s exercise library is available on a separate tab and inside the workout builder. It has more than 2,500 entries, many of which have an attached video demonstration, how-to instructions, and information on muscle targets, movement type (e.g., horizontal push), and equipment needed.

You can change all details, including the muscle targets, pattern, category (e.g., strength or distance), default tracking fields (e.g., reps and weight), how-to instructions, required equipment, and attached video.

You can also attach images, set other exercises as default alternatives, and add a default note that will appear for clients when you assign the movement to them.

Another nice touch is that you can add synonyms to exercises for search purposes. For example, if you want to find certain exercises with specific search terms, you can add those.

Finally, you can add custom exercises with all the abovementioned details.

That said, despite how comprehensive and flexible Everfit’s exercise library is, there are a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning:

First, the library feels sluggish, given its size. Results often take several seconds to load, which can be frustrating when you need to add several movements to a workout. A few seconds might not sound bad, but the time adds up.

Second, the search results are often long and not that relevant, which stretches the time it takes to find the correct movements. Scrolling through the results and trying multiple search terms can be a frustrating time-waster.

Third, despite the library’s flexibility, you must do a lot of work upfront to customize it to your needs. This means setting synonyms to make exercises more easily found, adding default alternative exercises, and writing notes with additional information and tips for your clients.

In contrast, Hevy Coach’s library has around 450 exercises. But, despite that, it is just as good and helpful in many ways.

For one, there are fewer exercises, but each is more relevant, allowing you to find the correct movements more easily, even with a simple search query like bench press or barbell row.

Second, you can use the built-in filters to make the search results even more relevant. Given the instant results loading, you can add multiple exercises to any workout you build in record time.

an overview of search results in hevy coach's exercise library

Third, you get valuable information for each exercise: high-quality step-by-step instructions on setup and execution, target muscles, required equipment, and type (e.g., weight/reps). Just as on Everfit, you can edit the how-to instructions and attach a video to existing exercises.

an overview of an individual exercise from hevy coach's library with an option to edit the information

Even if Hevy Coach’s library lacks a movement you prescribe to clients, you can always add it as a custom activity with a name, image, video, and information on the type, muscles trained, required equipment, and how-to instructions.

Client List and Client Profile

The client list is Everfit’s default home screen instead of a dashboard. It lists all clients, including the time of their last activity and workout adherence in the previous week and month. You can filter clients by status.

Click on any person in your list to open their profile, where you can browse through several tabs. The overview section has a lot of information, including the client’s adherence, goals, notes, injuries and limitations, body metrics, progress photos, and updates. However, it looks cluttered:

The other sections provide additional information, such as the client’s plan, workouts, assigned daily tasks (e.g., tracking body fat), body weight and body fat, food journal updates, and documents.

However, Hevy Coach handles client lists and profiles better.

Your list on Hevy Coach shows all clients, their current program and progress, activity in the last seven days, and assigned coach, in case it’s someone from your team. This is plenty of insight before even entering a client’s profile.

overview of client list in the hevy coach platform

Click on a person to visit their profile, where you can navigate through several tabs to get all the insight you need. The available sections are:

  • Overview – see and edit the client’s workout plan, write notes (only visible to you), examine the latest activities on a feed, and dive into statistics like time spent training, volume, sets completed, and body weight.
  • Workout Program – view a simplified version of your client’s training plan with an option to edit or swap it and examine each completed workout on a feed.
  • Exercise Statistics – get a detailed view of your client’s performance on any exercise they’ve logged at least once.
overview of performance tracking on individual exercise in hevy coach
  • Advanced Statistics – examine your client’s set count per muscle group, time spent training, volume load, and sets completed. These appear on separate graphs, and you can select to display weekly, monthly, or yearly data.
  • Body Measurements – see your client’s body fat, body weight, and circumference measurements on separate graphs. You can see their results from the last 12 weeks, the previous year, or all time.
  • Progress Pictures – see all of the progress photos your client has uploaded through the app and compare them side by side to track visual changes.

Everfit’s client profiles are insightful and organized. However, they are also cluttered and offer sections and areas you may not need. Client lists are also not the best because they provide little insight.

In contrast, Hevy Coach handles client lists and profiles much better because they are more streamlined and display only the most relevant information to guide coaching decisions.

Client App

Everfit’s client app has several sections and multiple features. The app’s main sections are:

  • Today shows the workout assigned for today and the daily steps taken if the client connects their Apple Health. Clients can also log unscheduled activities like running, bike sessions, walking, or sports.
  • Coaching shows the activities you’ve scheduled for the current week and tasks for the previous seven days. The client can click on them for details and see what workouts they’ve completed or missed. Clients can click to see workouts scheduled for upcoming days, but they cannot start or log them. There’s also an option for clients to rearrange workouts.
  • Inbox provides access to your clients’ chat with you.
  • You allows clients to add weight metrics and monitor their progress over time, review their previously completed workouts, upload progress photos, and track their steps taken.

Let’s briefly circle back to workout logging. To do so, your client must navigate to Today and click Start workout on their scheduled session. This triggers a stopwatch at the top, and the client can log the session section by section and set by set.

Once done, your client can mark the session as complete.

Clients can change training variables while logging their workouts, and an automatic rest timer will start once they mark a set as complete.

Clicking on an exercise’s name opens a new window with a video demo, how-to instructions, and other important information. Your client can also add a note to any movement you’ve prescribed.

Everfit’s client app has some fantastic features, including flexible workout logging. However, Hevy 5-star client app is better. Millions of athletes use it to log their workouts, upload body metrics and progress photos, track their performance, and engage with other users.

Let’s begin with workout logging. To do that, your client must navigate to the Coach section, pick the workout for the day, and click Start Routine. Like on Everfit, a stopwatch appears on top to track the workout’s duration.

Your client will see all the exercises as you’ve prescribed them, along with custom notes, the rest timers, load, rep targets for each set, and RPE. They can input weight and reps or duration, mark sets as complete one by one (triggering the automatic rest timer), and add or remove sets to any movement.

three sections in the hevy client app: starting and logging a workout

Clients can also write a custom note to any exercise, input their RPE per set, and mark sets by type: normal, warm-up, to failure, or drop set.

overview of set types, RPE, and set removal in the hevy client app

Like on the Everfit client app, your clients can click on any exercise for more information, such as to examine their previous performance, heaviest weight lifted, one-rep max, and best set volume. There’s also a section with a demonstrational animation and step-by-step instructions.

However, unlike Everfit, the Hevy client app offers a few additional things. One is the ability to upload photos, videos, and a private note before marking any session as complete.

overview of media uploading and writing feedback in the hevy client app

Another option for your clients that’s not available on Everfit is to click the stopwatch on the top left. This opens a new window with options to:

  • Pause the timer, which is particularly valuable if the client has to stop a workout and finish it later
  • Set a specific start date and time, which is a simple way to log a previously completed workout

As a quick side note, the icon on the top right in the Coach tab opens the client’s chat with you.

Beyond workout logging, your clients can create and store routines, log unscheduled sessions (for instance, an impromptu run), track their performance on any exercise they’ve logged through the app by navigating to Profile and Exercises, and upload body metrics and progress photos.

an overview of three sections in the hevy client app

Clients can also use the app to analyze advanced workout stats, such as set count per muscle group, muscle distribution, what exercises they do most often, and how often they work out. Having access to all of that data can be a huge motivator and help clients stay accountable.

The third central pillar of the Hevy app is social. As app users, your clients can follow others, get followed, see what workouts and activities other people log, and show support by leaving comments and likes. That said, people not interested in this aspect of Hevy can keep their profiles private.

“My clients love using the app, from simple tracking and social sharing to more advanced features like 1rm predictions and workout muscle usage charts.”

Coach App

Everfit’s coach app is thorough and functional. There are several sections:

  • Clients – see your client list and visit their profiles, where you get an overview, activity history, and access to notes, forms, and progress photos. You can also invite new clients.
  • Library – access the exercise and workout library. Edit existing workouts and exercises; build custom exercises and workouts.
  •  Inbox – access all of your chats with clients.
  • Notifications – see all of your clients’ recently logged activities and click on any of them for more information.

More importantly, you can log your clients’ workouts for them. To do so, navigate to Clients, select a person from your list, and click on Training to open a new window displaying all their scheduled workouts.

Click on a workout and select Log from the pop-up menu. This will open a new section where you can log the workout just as they would through the client app.

The Hevy Coach app is more basic but incredibly functional. Navigate to the Clients tab, select a person from your list, and examine their assigned training plan workout by workout. To log a session for a client, click Start session on the right workout.

Doing so opens a new tab where you can log the workout for your client set by set and enjoy the same freedom as they would while logging a session through the client app.

a look at a client's profile and workout logging capabilities inside the hevy coach app

Add or remove sets and input each set’s weight, reps, and RPE or duration before marking it complete and starting the rest timer. Swap, reorder, and remove exercises when necessary, pair them into supersets, and see your client’s previous workout performance.

Before completing a workout, you can upload images, videos, and a note you can make public or private. Also, like on the client app, you can click the stopwatch to select a date and time for the start of a session. This is useful for logging a previously completed workout.

You can pause the timer if the client needs to stop and finish the session later.

multiple tabs displaying the available options for editing and logging workouts inside the hevy coach app

In addition to the intuitive and flexible workout logging, you can invite new clients and chat with everyone on your roster.

So, while the Everfit coach app is more comprehensive, the Hevy Coach app offers the feature that matters most: the ability to log workouts for clients. You can and should do everything else on a big screen.

Coaching Team

You can invite other coaches to your team or join one in Everfit. As a team owner or admin, you can invite trainers and assign a role: member or admin. However, you can’t visit their profiles and see their client lists.

To visit the client profiles of other coaches on your team, navigate to the Clients tab and select Your Entire Team. All the clients are pooled there, but the list doesn’t show who the assigned coach is.

So, to see client profiles of a specific coach, you must navigate through the list by memory or visit profiles one at a time until you get to the right ones.

Another drawback of this feature is that the team members can’t share digital resources like custom exercises, workouts, and training plans.

Hevy Coach also has a feature that allows you to create or join a coaching team, but it’s more intuitive and useful.

overview of the list of trainers on a team in hevy coach

You can add or remove coaches from the team in a way similar to Everfit. However, you can also visit their profiles, where you get three sections:

  • Overview – see the coach’s active and inactive clients, their logged activities on a feed, and a graph of their weekly active clients.
  • Clients – see the list of clients along with their current programs, progress, and activity in the last seven days. Click on any client to visit their profile and see their latest logged activities, current workout plan, exercise statistics, advanced stats, body metrics, and progress photos.
  • Programs – see that coach’s list of programs. As an admin, you can edit the program, assign it to clients, and copy it to your library. You can also access to other trainers’ program libraries by navigating to the Program Library tab and selecting your team’s library.

In addition to sharing workouts and workout programs, any custom exercise created by a coach is shared among all members. This means everyone’s exercise library grows as the team expands and coaches add custom movements, creating an atmosphere of generosity and mutual support.

Lastly, you can assign and reassign clients, which allows you to manage your team better and ensure that each client is paired with the right coach and gets the best guidance possible.

Grow: Generating New Leads

Hevy Coach has Grow, a feature that allows you to create a lead generation form with a cover image, a message, and a unique link.

overview of the lead generation feature in hevy coach

Share your unique invite link on social media, your website, and elsewhere. When a prospect clicks, they can apply for coaching with their name, email address, and a brief message explaining who they are.

Applications appear under Leads within the Grow tab. You can look through them and accept or decline anyone.

Everfit doesn’t have such a feature.

Pricing

Everfit offers a free 30-day trial for up to 50 clients (no credit card required). There is also a free plan for up to five clients, but it lacks features like an advanced program builder, team functions, and habit coaching.

Their most popular plan is Pro. It starts at $19 monthly for up to five clients and has most of the features you might need. You can also opt for an annual Pro plan that starts from $190.

To Conclude

So, does Everfit have the most powerful coaching tools? It’s close because its program builder is quite flexible, the workout builder has numerous great features for various coaches, the exercise library is rich, and client profiles provide a lot of insight.

The coach and client apps are also excellent, and the ability to log workouts set by set and edit the training details during a session is a fantastic touch.

So, Everfit may be the best platform for trainers who program various types of workouts and want additional features like habit coaching.

However, Hevy Coach is the better option for personal trainers and strength coaches, especially those who value minimalism and look for superior team functions.

Hevy Coach has an informative dashboard for at-a-glance progress tracking, a program library that allows you to organize programs in folders, a flexible workout builder with all the features you need for traditional strength and hypertrophy programming, and a curated exercise library with the most relevant entries.

Client lists and profiles are more streamlined and informative, the client app has more features and is easier to use, and the team feature is more refined. It allows you to assign and reassign clients, track all clients more closely, and share resources like training plans and custom exercises.
